Starting with a moonlight walk on Friday night (€25). Followed by a 16km walk up Lugnaquilla on Saturday (€25). On Sunday, there is a sunrise walk (€35) at 5am from Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh followed by a champagne breakfast.

Leprechaun hunt

On March 27th – the first day when the clocks go forward – Carlingford will host the “National Leprechaun Hunt”. Assembling at The Green at 1.30pm, hunters will proceed to the mountain gate.

The hunting area will be marked out and it is expected that up to 50 leprechauns could be found each carrying a reward. An area around the Wishing Well and Slate Rock will be restricted for the protection of flora, fauna, wild animals and, of course, the little people.

The cost of a hunting license is €5. All proceeds on the day to go to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and local charities. Details from carlingfordleprechaun.ie or phone 042-9373033.

Nire bogtrot

The Nire Valley Comeragh Mountains Bogtrot is a 23km guided hill walk taking place on March 27th.

Starting at Mahon Falls and finishing at Ballymacarbry, maps of the route will be provided for competent walkers who may prefer to self-navigate.

Registration will take place in the Community Centre at Ballymacarbry.

The meeting time is 7.45am and the plan is to start walking by 9.15am.

The cost: €25 covering entry, transport to the start, use of showers/changing facilities and a hot meal; or €12, as before without the hot meal.
