The trend for weird and wonderful accommodation options continues unabated and, if you’re still only coming to terms with glamping, for goodness sake, keep up.

Next to wing its way here will be its latest iteration – tree tents.

Perfect for the tweeting generation, tree tents are like giant bird houses suspended in the treetops and they are already available in at least two campsites in the UK.

The 3-metre in diameter orbs are designed for two, with occupants falling asleep not just listening to the wind in the trees, but being swayed by it. Each comes equipped with crockery, cutlery and even a wood-burning hob.

The idea of hanging tents is not new however, with a range of options already available that, rather than be pegged into the ground in the old fashioned way, are designed to be hung from tree branches and even suspended over cliffs.

There are tents that you throw in the air to erect – like kids’ pop up toys – and there are tents with solar energy powered plug points to allow you charge your mobile phone, so that no thought need go untweeted.
