IF YOUR offspring are true high-flyers, their best summer-camp option must be the one run by Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, near Cape Canaveral in Florida.
Open to kids aged eight to 14, the week-long programme at Nasa’s launch headquarters offers a galaxy of high-octane entertainment.
This includes a chance to experience space flight in a range of motion-based simulators, investigating space travel of the future and designing space-exploration vehicles and habitats.
Astronauts will be on hand to talk about their experiences and answer questions, while another highlight is a chance to take part in a simulated space-shuttle mission, including getting strapped in for launch.
Camps run between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday most weeks of the summer; they cost €295 per participant.
And even if the children don’t want to commit to a week, there’s always the Nasa Overnight Adventure option, which includes meeting an astronaut, watching an Imax space film and going on the Great Rocket Scavenger Hunt.
Open to children within the same age range, it costs $85 (about €67); chaperones pay $65 (about €52), so they can also boldly go.
