The hotels that have baths in the bedrooms, featured here, are keen on their eco-credentials: tapping into nature takes many forms. Each bath-in-bed hotel is set in natural surroundings and Viceroy Snowmass, which has won a Gold certificate from Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), nests in the Rocky Mountains. These can be viewed from the bath in some of the rooms where the glass wall between bath and bed can be clear, opaque or opened right up. The hotel’s decor is in a pared down natural style and includes black granite, walnut, birch walls and giant tree-trunk columns.

TIERRA PATAGONIA HOTEL AND SPA, CHILE

Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile, tel: 0056-2370-5301, tierrapatagonia.com

This eco-friendly, aerodynamic building opened recently in a national park in the Patagonia region of south Chile on South America’s foot. The earth- and timber-clad hotel winds along a bluff, hugs into the vast landscape of the Torres del Paine national park and looks out onto a lake and mountains. Such viewing can even be done from your bath, which is beside the bedroom windows in the standard rooms. This primal combination of sleeping and bathing is complemented by the natural palette of materials used in the rooms: wood, wool, leather, earth, stone and glass.

Nature in the national park comes in the form of a landscape ranging from forests, deserts, waterfalls, lagoons, mountains, lakes and granite sculpted by glaciers. This is inhabited by exotic plants and beasts such as puma, flamingos and condors. Watch the show through glass walls in the hotel’s common areas or take a hike, then soothe walking muscles in the spa.

Rooms:there are 40 rooms including two-storey suites, superior rooms (which can be interconnected to make family apartments) and standard rooms, which have baths at the ends of the beds.

Doubles from $1,950 each (€1,585) for three nights full board, including excursions and drinks
