All sorts of nominees at Smock Alley show

THE SOCIAL NETWORK:To the opening night of The Life and Sort of Death of Eric Argyle, which is nominated for an 'Irish Times' Theatre Award for best new play. In the bar after the show, the writer of the play, Ross Dungan, congratulated Tom Speers, who is nominated for best sound design for the production Macklin: Method and Madness.

Speers’s father, Jonny Speers, has a production company and was at college with the actor Michael James Ford, who asked Tom to design the sound for his show. Tom was “pleasantly surprised by the nomination, as I didn’t actually get to see the finished play”. Safe to say, it went well. He was with Jonathan Creasy, with whom he is working on a new short film about ticket machines at Dart stations.

Joining the cast for this run of Eric Argyle at Smock Alley Theatre was another link to a short film, the actor Emmet Kirwan, who was part of Dave Tynan’s Just Saying, which went viral at Christmas. Kirwan is also the title character in the RTÉ comedy, Sarah and Steve, which he wrote.
