Google Pixel tablet gets first makeover in five years

We have been waiting a long time for a new Pixel tablet. Google last unveiled one of the larger-screened devices bearing its own name in 2018, with the Pixel Slate, and there has been nothing since. Until, that is, the Pixel Tablet was announced in 2022, with the promise that it would be available this year. A few days ago, that happened, with Google finally shipping the device to customers.

The Pixel tablet has the potential to become the smart home hub you’ve been looking for. It has an 11-inch display and comes with Android 13, which is optimised for larger screens. The charging dock is also a speaker and the whole set-up bears a resemblance to Google’s Nest Hub.

As a tablet, it goes up against the entry-level iPad, with an 8-megapixel camera and four built-in speakers. It also has the Tensor G2 chip for security, and it has Chromecast built in – a first for Pixel tablets – so you can cast your entertainment directly to the display.
