Over 2,000 firms facing strike-off

A company linked to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland is among more than 2,000 on the latest strike-off list published by the Companies Registration Office (CRO).

Also listed are companies linked to Dunnes Stores, McCann Fitzgerald solicitors, and Mercer, the pensions consultancy company.

These firms are: Dunnes Stores Investments; McCannFitz Legal Ltd; and Mercer Ireland Holdings Ltd.

The company which oversees internet names in the .ie domain, the Irish National Domain Registry Ltd, is also listed.

The companies listed are ones which have failed to supply certain basic information to the Revenue Commissioners.

They have been warned in relation to this failure and, having failed to respond in time to the warning, have been placed on the strike-off list.

The companies listed will be struck off the companies register after a further month if they have not supplied the basic information required by then.

They have been warned the registrar intends to strike them off the register on the grounds that they have not supplied the Revenue Commissioners with information which the Revenue Commissioners requested pursuant to section 882 of the Taxes Consolidation Act 1997.

Companies looking to be removed from the list should immediately forward the relevant information to the Revenue Commissioners, according to the CRO.

A spokesman for the Institute of Certified Public Accountants said the company which has been put on the strike-off list, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland Benevolent Fund Ltd, was a new one and had now supplied the necessary information to the Revenue.

A body other than the institute had been delegated to handle such matters but had overlooked filing the relevant form with the Revenue.

The latest strike-off list is a particularly large one because the Revenue has not notified companies under section 882 of the 1997 act since early last year.

The presence of a large number of companies with names referring to internet activities is a notable feature of the latest list.
